Where in the world did Leo go?

In Monument Valley

Guten Tag, tere, hola, ciao, γεια σας, halló! Bonjour LFNY community- you’ll never believe the summer I had! Thanks to you all I had the incredible opportunity to travel around the world seeing unbelievable sites, learning lots and making a difference.

From the glaciers of Iceland to the 118-degree national park of Death Valley, the Eiffel Tower in Paris to the tall Redwoods of Sequoia National Park, the calm beach in Greece to an active volcano in Costa Rica, my travels sure were as diverse and exciting as our own student body here at school.

Iceland
In Iceland! Brrrrrrrr

I had the opportunity to learn so much this summer. I watched fine sea salt be made in Sicily, fed hummingbirds in Costa Rica, discovered new technologies at the ISTE conference in San Antonio, explored the Brooklyn Children’s Museum, role-played with Sherlock Holmes in London, saw how recycled materials could be used to make art in Santo Domingo, practiced teamwork at Camp Pontiac and visited many of this country’s national parks such as Arches, Death Valley, Sequoia and Bryce Canyon.

As much as I love to visit new places and meet new people, some of my favorite moments of the summer involved helping others. I tagged along with LFNY families and staff to Haiti and the Dominican Republic, and participated in a soccer match for local children, shared sports and educational equipment with a school in need,  cared for orphaned kittens and showed what it truly means to be a good global citizen.

I have to say a big “Merci!” to all of the students, parents, faculty and staff of our great school who made room for me in their suitcases and took time to snap pictures with me. I cannot wait until next year so I can explore the world again with you all!

Now, take a look at this video documenting every detail of my incredible summer here:
