LFNY Varsity Girls cruised to an easy victory over FASNY

“Don’t be scared; slide better n defense. Pace yourselves and finish on the mismatch,” said Coach Brown during . the Lycée Français de New York Girls varsity basketball team’s rival match-up against French American School of New York.

The Lynx responded with  an amazing lead during all four quarters. The only  doubt was when the FASNY captain scored 4 points in mere minutes. Although they managed to score, they never stood a chance against Lynx center Jessica B.. She was obviously the top performer of the game getting almost all the rebounds. . A mismatch was obvious here. “Height-wise we had an advantage, and thanks to that we were able to pull it off,” said Jessica in a post-game interview. The center’s role in a game is to produce strong defense.. She  displayed great coordination with her team-mates, always going for the pick and helping out the point guard.

FASNY never stood a chance

During the first quarter FASNY only scored one free-throw and in the second quarter there wasn’t much of a difference; they scored 4 more points. The LFNY girls had a 12 point lead by the end of the first half. “We have a big lead, so everything is going well,” stated  Fiona P during a halftime interview. However, in the third quarter, the Lynx girls only scored 5 points while FASNY was now down by only 13. This small comeback started demoralizing the home team. At the end of the game, however,  the score was 32 to 16 for LFNY.

Nothing can penetrate an impenetrable wall. The LFNY defense was outstanding. The girls played box-and-one defense which proved more than enough to beat the other team. This defense is a hybrid of man-to-man defense and zone defense. Box-and-one is very useful when you want to box out the best offensive player on the other team. However the paint is left open for attack; this was the only sweet spot that FASNY could  take advantage of

“The defense was great, there was good hustle, and teamwork was great. However, we need to improve our turnovers and prevent other teams’ opportunities. Nonetheless, we are good at offensive and defensive rebounds,” said Coach Brown during the post-game interview. We expect the Girls team to play well next time. If they can beat FASNY, their rival, they can beat anyone We look forward to their next success.
