What is the Fête Foraine?
The Fête Foraine is the Fall community event for the school, replacing the Fall festival. It’s a fun family event for all ages. Fête Foraine is the French name for a carnival or fun fair. For us, it’s creating a fun and relaxed atmosphere to spend time with other lycee families playing carnival games, making arts and crafts and indulging in sweets all while supporting our school. Our theme this year is Coney Island, an iconic carnival experience that embodies New York City. Coney Island has a rich history dating back to the late 1800’s, we wanted to recreate the excitement and romance it represents for so many of us.
What are you most excited about for this event?
It’s our first time organizing an event so that is exciting in and of itself! It’s been a great way to give back to the school and get to know other parents. We’re very excited for the carnival games and prizes! Games will include classic skee ball, bean bag toss, rubber duck matching and many more. We’ll also have a prize booth where kids can redeem their winnings from the games- look out for Baby Leo at the prize booth!
This year we’ll have a silent auction and child-friendly raffle for toys and games. There will be a Make Your Own Tote Bag booth with the Coney Island theme and a Photo Booth to capture the memories. Mostly we’re excited about having a way to bring our community together. We have met great parents who are excited to volunteer, but we always need more!
What are things not to miss?
Besides some of the great new features we just mentioned, you also want to make sure you know about the other cool things happening at the Fair including: cotton candy – lots of it 🙂 – the bouncy house, rock climbing, arts and crafts, and face painting – and a great temporary tattoo stand.
Anything else we should know?
There are different ways you can plan ahead to get the most out of the Fête Foraine. The school will be sending information on how to sign-up for scheduled activities in advance. You will also be able to purchase a wristband that will give you and your children full unlimited access to all the activities that will be taking place in the big gym. That includes arts and crafts, carnival games, rock climbing, and the bouncy castle. If your kid wants to go 10 times on the bouncy castle, they can!
For adult only, we are bringing back the Friday Night Cocktail. Mingle with parents, staff and alumni under the twinkling lights of the cafeteria. Tickets for the cocktail and all the activities are already on sale here.
How can parents participate in the Fête Foraine?
There are many opportunities to help! Before and during the Fête Foraine, and for as little time or as much as you have available. You don’t have to be creative, or a master DIY-er either! You can reach out to Kate Lubinger at klubinger@lfny.org. Thank you.
