Friday: The Conseils de classe for the second trimester started this week. Here, high school teachers, advisors and counselors are discussing the progress of the 1ere ES2 (11th graders) students.
Thursday: Students in Antoine Thiboult’s fourth-grade class celebrated the work they did to collect school materials, including pens, notebooks and colored pencils for children at the Etzer Vilaire School in Haiti. Said student Pablo, the donations will be organized into small bags for each student at the school. Thank you to all community members for your contributions!
Wednesday: Student Esther answers questions from her fellow eighth graders about her recent visit to the Lycée Jean-Baptiste Pointe du Sable, the LFNY’s partner school in St. Marc, Haiti. The Lycée is planning its first service-learning trip to St. Marc this coming fall; eight to twelve ninth-grade students will participate.
Wednesday: French bilingual pedagogy expert Dr. Christine Hélot is working with teachers across the school to address questions about teaching subjects in a bilingual context. Here, she meets with Primary teachers to discuss bilingualism in science and math. “All questions about acquiring knowledge (savoir) begin with the question of language,” she said.
Tuesday: Math teacher Claire Berlioz works on division with sixth-grade students in her class. She says that teaching has evolved since the 1:1 iPad program was introduced. Students work with special software on the iPad for geometry and quizzes, and they also work through problems creating their own videos using the app “Explain Everything.”
Monday: First graders in Nicolas Jan’s class quietly read books in the classroom’s corner library while they wait to take their turn for a short reading assessment with their teacher.
