LFNY Alumni Art Exhibition: Meditations on Language

We chose the theme of language because as multilingual school with close to 50 nationalities represented in our community, the differences and similarities of the many languages spoken in our corridors by students and staff and parents are very much at the core of our culture.

Once again, there were fantastic art submissions from Italy, France and United States, as well as compelling photography submissions from Nepal and Cote d’Ivoire. In all, there were over 40 works of art submitted from 18 alumni artists who ranged in promotion years from 1960 to 2012. The artwork mediums included graphic design, paintings, photography, sculpture and video; and it showcased the profound talent and creativity of our alumni population. Of particular interest to many of the guests was the video installation of Luke Henderson (’11), which documents in 45 seconds each morning of the last five years of his life, as well as three monotypes submitted by Charlie Masson (’05).

The guests were not only enthusiastic about the art work and the reception; they were also very happy to have an opportunity to reconnect with LFNY. “This is such a wonderful event,” remarked Marie-Christine Comte (‘60), who submitted three paintings to the exhibition, and traveled from Italy to attend the reception. “It brings together so many of us from so many different promotions,” she continued. “And it shows the vast array of creativity and talent that our alumni population possess.”
