We are very proud to premiere at the school for our next Movie Night will be this coming Wednesday December 12 at 6:30pm , The We and the I, the latest film by French director and alum parent Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind and Be Kind Rewind) . The We and the I was screened in the Directors’ Fortnight section at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival and will be released in the US next March.
It is the last day of the year at a high school in Bronx. Students pile on the usual bus home. The raucous bunch of aggressive and superficial teens: the bullies and the bullied – develops and is transformed as the bus empties. Relationships become closer and more personal between students with absolutely nothing in common.“We all remember our last day at high school, the farewells, the friends, the excitement about the upcoming vacation. We all remember solid an fragile friendships, plans for the future, pleasures and pain, love and heartbreak, things we always wanted to say and never dared.. The We and the I is the last trip home from school and it takes place in the Bronx.” Tells director Michel Gondry.
Michel Gondry was born in Versailles, France in 1963 His career as a filmmaker began with creating music videos for the French rock band Oui Oui, in which he also served as a drummer. The style of his videos for Oui Oui caught the attention of music artist Björk, who asked him to direct the video for her song “Human Behaviour” Gondry made his feature film debut in 2001 with Human Nature, garnering mixed reviews. His second film, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (also his second collaboration with screenwriter Charlie Kaufman), was released in 2004 and received very favorable reviews, becoming one of the most critically acclaimed films of the year. Eternal Sunshine utilizes many of the image manipulation techniques that Gondry had experimented with in his music videos. Gondry won an Academy Award alongside Kaufman and Pierre Bismuth for the screenplay of Eternal Sunshine (2004). Other films include The Science of Sleep (2006), Be Kind Rewind (2008), The Green Hornet (2011).
Mr Gondry will come at a later date to talk to the students.
The Film is in English (strong language). Recommended for teenage students.
