Bill Bowers mime-7

Friday: Mime-artist Bill Bowers teaches second graders to express themselves using their body and not their voice. For instance, he instructs them to express geometric shapes, pull on a rope, push an imaginary wall, or pass to one another an imaginary box and act as if they discovered what’s inside–all without speaking.

The student said she used all different flavors (and colors) of capsules to represent diversity at the school.

JosHouben-38Tuesday: Belgian actor Jos Houben is spending a week with the tenth graders as part of an art residency. Here, he shows them the many unconscious steps that go into losing one’s balance and falling.

SeniorHomeY6-5Monday: A group of sixth graders head to the Carnegie East House, an assisted-living facility, to spend an hour and a half doing community service with the elderly.
