LFNY Lynx Show Team Spirit and Pride this Winter

As the weather starts to warm up, it’s a clear sign our winter athletics season has drawn to a close. We will certainly miss the camaraderie and spirit of our coaches and players on these teams, but we celebrate, too, another exciting season in sports at the Lycée Français de New York!

177 students participated this winter on 15 different teams, including our newest addition, Junior Varsity Squash.  Eleven excited students took to the court to make the Lycée proud. The team struggled at first, but were able to have their first victory, against BWL. They also had the opportunity to practice with Grégory Gaultier, the world-champion squash player from France.

Not to be outdone, our swim team continues to grow in numbers. There must be something in the water…  Two years ago we had 18 swimmers, and this year we had a team of 50. Both the boys and girls teams swam hard and fast, finishing second in their league championships.

Our basketball teams continue to show great improvement from dribbling to passing to baskets! Varsity Girls Basketball upset Trevor Day in their league playoffs, and Varsity Boys lost in overtime to Loyola. Both games were very exciting and came down to the final minutes. The strength of our middle-school teams indicates a strong future for our program. The boys team bounced back from a difficult season last year to finish this year with a record of 11 – 4.  Go Lynx!

The 2017 Varsity Basketball playoffs will take place during the February break. Players and parents, mark your calendars now…

The Varsity Girls Gymnastics Team had a strong season. They finished second in their league championships. Once again the championships were held in front of a capacity crowd here at the Lycée.

Our Indoor Track Team made their mark at the Armory. We had a number of students run their personal best. A wonderful achievement!

Overall our teams did well. They are showing how proud they are to represent the Lycée, and we are proud of them.

We are off and running with our spring sports. Let’s hope for good weather…
